The Cherokee Rose became Georgia's official state "floral emblem" by virtue of a joint resolution of the General Assembly approved by Gov. Nathaniel Harris on Aug. 18, 1916.

“Betcha Didn't Know” that southern hospitality began with the colonists.

Having a friendly way with people began with Georgia's first colonists. For those unaware, Southern hospitality is synonymous with down-to-earth friendliness and a gracious charitable (giving) pace, and Savannah has a world-renown reputation for southern hospitality. By 1735, Savannah has swelled to 600 colonists. The diverse cultures of England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany and Austria extended courtesies of helpfulness and friendly greetings to each other and to visitors. One example is found in this account of far away visitors lodging with Savannah's early colonists, “…in groups of nine or ten to spend the night. The evening stories would be exchanged … then [they might] spread hay upon the floor for their guests, at other times give up their own beds, and themselves sleep upon the floor.” Today, the tradition of southern hospitality continues at Azalea Inn … with modern southern comforts and casual sensibilities.

We like to say -- "Azalea Inn, a seasoned, soothing, southern & sportive beautiful life... even for a day.” The southern hospitality at Azalea Inn features southern food, southern cuisine, and southern comfort ….
