The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the annual festival, filled with cinematic creativity from both award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. Each year more than 40,000 people attend the eight days Savannah Film Festival. The festival is host to a wide variety of competition film screenings, special screenings, workshops, panels, and lectures. The full schedule of screenings will be available on Oct. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m.

15th Annual Savannah Film Festival starts tomorrow, October 27, 2012

2012 Savannah Film Festival

You don’t have to be in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre or behind the gold cord at the Oscars to lay claim to a “star” sighting. You merely need to be in Savannah for the 15th Annual Savannah Film Festival which starts tomorrow, October 27, 2012.  Actors Matt Dillon, Diane Lane and John Goodman will receive the Outstanding Achievement in Cinema award while actress Michelle Monaghan and director John Gatins will each receive the Spotlight Award. Filmmaker Geoffrey Fletcher (winner of the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for “Precious”) will receive the Savannah College of Art and Design Cinevation Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Stan Lee (Spiderman, the Avengers, the X-Men and hundreds of others).

African American Experience in 1812 with Dr. Felicia Bell. Music provided by McIntosh County Shouters.

Dr. Felicia A. Bell currently teaches history at Savannah State University where she received her BA degree. She earned her Ph. D from Howard University. Before joining the faculty at Savannah State Felicia was the Director of Education and Outreach at the United States Capitol Historical Society and earlier was Director of Education and Programs at the Coastal Heritage Society. Felicia is currently on the Board of Directors for the Coastal Heritage Society.

War of Independence Battle of Savannah Commemorative March on October 9, 2012

Each year we mark the anniversary of the Battle of Savannah, which took place on October 9, 1779 with a commemorative march to Battlefield Memorial Park  (located between the Visitors Center and the Georgia Railroad Museum.)
