Visit Savannah in October

June 30, 2014 by Teresa Jacobson

Savannah in OctoberSavannah is the city where you can indulge your love of the ocean, even in October! We’ve been known to swim while others around the country are wearing their sweaters already. Besides putting the final touches on your summer tan, swimming and all the other fun stuff to do in Savannah, there are 2 amazing events in October you can’t miss.

When you visit Savannah in October you will experience the arrival of two replica tall ships from the shores of Spain AND attend a weekend festival dedicated exclusively to pirates.

Visit Savannah in October to See the Tall Ships

The tall ships are relics of the past named El Galeon and Nao Victoria. El Galeon is the replica of the ship that Ponce de Leon sailed way back in 1513 to the land we now know as Florida. Nao Victoria was the first ship to circumnavigate the world.

Rumor has it that at the end of October the ships will be docked on River Street. Daily tours will welcome you aboard as honored guests and teach you about the marvels and the mayhem of sailing in the 16th century.

Who doesn’t love a little fame? El Galeon is the ship used in the filming of the new television show Crossbones which features John Malkovich as the infamous pirate Blackbeard. Speaking of pirates…

Pirate Fest: A Must-See When You Visit Savannah in October

The Tybee Island Pirate Fest is taking place October 9-12, 2014. This 9th year of the beloved event is something you won’t want to miss. There’s a Thieve’s Market for those pirates among you searching for treasure. Most everyone is in costume on the island, which is only a 20 minute drive from Savannah’s historic district. Time to schedule that last hurrah, folks! Come to Savannah in October.

Azalea Inn and Gardens, a Savannah GA bed and breakfast inn, invites you to reserve a room today to begin enjoying the best experiences in our city, which Travel + Leisure Magazine acclaimed as a “World’s Best City.”
