Founded in 1998, the Savannah Film Festival, hosted by Savannah College of Art & Design, has brought filmmakers, actors, and educators to the city for eight days of film viewings, lectures, and conferences. Each year more than 40,000 people attend the eight day Savannah Film Festival. Channel your inner film buff and enjoy the cinematic creativity from SCAD film students and award-winning professionals! There will be over 90 premiere film screenings this year, providing ample opportunities to see amazing independent films.
You can find big names within many of the films that will be shown this year, and often, some of these actors, directors, and writers will be hosting Q&A sessions after screenings. Names have not been announced yet, but keep on the look out! Catch the screening of “The Homesman”, a film that tells the story of the harsh pioneer life, featuring Hilary Swank, Meryl Streep, James Spader, and Tommy Lee Jones. Or, watch the popular Benedict Cumberbatch in his intense performance as Alan Turning in “The Imitation Game.” Interested in something spooky? Well, the Savannah Film Festival will host a series call “After Dark.” This series includes thriller, supernatural, and horror genres, with screenings of “Creep”, Horns”, and “The Badabook.” Whatever genre you prefer, there are plenty of unique films this year at the festival, so don’t miss out!
Keep your eyes out for famous faces! The Savannah Film Festival brings famous writers, directors, and actors to the Hostess City. Jeremy Irons, Norman Reedus, Alec Baldwin, and Abigail Breslin are just a few actors that have received awards and discussed films with audiences at the Savannah Film Festival. Many actors have come to Savannah for this festival and to film movies, such as Forrest Gump and Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil. The full schedule of screenings will be available on Oct. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m.
This past week the Savannah College of Art and Design hosted the 13th annual Savannah Film Festival, a weeklong event featuring independent and innovative films from around the world as well as films by SCAD students. The films were shown at a variety of venues around the city, including the historic Trustees Theater on Broughton Street, conveniently located next door to Leopold’s Ice Cream Shoppe for a tasty post-movie dessert!
