Today we’re telling you all about Savannah’s Ellis Square.
When you visit Savannah, we make sure to help you have the best vacation EVER.
Our ideas about the BEST vacation in Savannah almost always include a lengthy and leisurely tour of the historic district to see each of the 24 different squares – those spaces that really set our city apart as an intriguing destination.
Where is Ellis Square?
Ellis Square is just east of City Market, where there is live music most every night and TONS to see and do. On Barnard Street between Bryan and Congress Streets, you can walk to Ellis Square from our B&B in just over 20 minutes. Keep walking East and you’ll hit the biggest square in Savannah, Johnson Square. Back to Ellis though…
People-Watching at Ellis Square
As the square closest to City Market, Ellis Square commands a great deal of foot traffic. It is really a crossroads, because Savannians and vacationers alike stop and take advantage of the ample seating or pass through on their way to other parts of this great city. Ellis is the square that has the most concrete and least green, so the look really fits its function as a crossroads. Visitors, don’t fret – the pavement presents, playtime!
The Only Square with Sprinklers is Ellis
Unleash your inner little kid at Ellis Square during the hot months here in Savannah. The sprinkler systems seem to have been designed with play in mind. In a city full of fun, we do NOT discourage that!
The fountains come right from the ground and cascade up into an ideal formation for running through and playing in. Those fountain sprinklers are featured in the picture above, shooting out water to the delight of children of all ages.
Maybe you can tell that we love Ellis Square here!
