Heartwarming Review: “Azalea Inn My Mind”

March 24th, 2011 by Teresa

Dear Teresa, Elizabeth, Kimberly, Kolin and Miss Betty,

Three days back in Miami, and still I have not been able to stop thinking of your wonderful Inn.  It has been difficult for me to concentrate at work.  I find myself going into your website and reading all the wonderful blogs, trying to keep this dreamy feeling as long as possible.  May I never wake up from this dream.  The minute we walked in to your house (because we felt like this was “your” house, not a bed and breakfast), we felt like we were stepping into another world, another country (if you will), a country full of friendliness, good manners, excellent service, fabulous food accompanied by wonderful discussions over breakfast.  In this little country called Azalea, strangers became friends in less than ten minutes, discussions flowed and laughter came easy.  In this little country, smiles came easy and helpfulness came naturally.  This beautiful little country is full of color and flowers and rooms full of light; the people that are lucky enough to visit this place are magically transformed from the moment that they walk in through the foyer.  We have visited many places, many countries but we have never felt so welcomed, so comfortable, yet so reluctant to leave the poetry and the charm of the place.  Here we found culture, southern hospitality (which is as warm as our own Latin version of it which stresses the importance of family and food that warms the heart and soul), and the best gourmet breakfasts that we have ever tasted (I am not exaggerating!!!).

I would wish for my words to capture the feeling, I would wish to write an ode to the Azalea and to each one of you.  Thank you Teresa for sharing your wonderful stories, your wit, your energy, your flowers, thank you for creating Azalea and for making it grow as lovely as your garden.  Thank you Kolin for food that melts in your mouth.  Thank you Elizabeth and Kimberly for five-star service and for golden smiles.  Thank you Miss Betty for your sweet personality and an extra smile for my Mami every morning when you greeted her.

May we all be lucky enough to visit Azalea once again and may the dream last forever.  I will end this heart-felt tribute with some of my favorite lines from Keats’s “Ode to a Nightingale”, which perfectly suits beautiful Savannah and your Azalea:

O, for a draught of vintage! that hath been

Cool’d a long age in the deep-delved earth,

Tasting of Flora and the country green,

Dance, and Provencal song, and sunburnt mirth!

O for a beaker full of the warm South,

Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,

———————————————————————————

Thank you again for inspiring my mother, my sister and I and for making our stay in Savannah so special!  Azalea will always be in our thoughts and in our dreams.

Fondest greetings from,

Ana (myself), Maria Esther (my sister), and Esther Pezon (my beautiful mother)

“My husband and I have stayed at the Azalea Inn the last three times that we visited Savannah. It is absolutely the Best Bed and Breakfast that we have stayed in. It is a beautiful home. The owner and all of her staff truly make our experience wonderful in every way from delicious breakfasts, luxury linens, delightful sweets throughout the day, the afternoon wine and cheese social to the wonderful and helpful staff. We refer to the inn as our home away from home. We have met people from different states and countries. The laid back atmosphere allows you to feel right at home and is very conducive to afternoon naps. I would highly reccommend the Azalea Inn to any of my friends and family. ”

We LOVE sharing:

Azalea Inn and Gardens' Live Oak Canopy room

Dear Teresa and Staff,

My husband and I just got back to Colorado after having spent 4 lovely days at your B & B – wow – that hardly does it justice.  What an incredibly enchanting place you’ve got.  We enjoyed our stay so very, very much.  Everyone was as gracious and helpful as could be.  We really needed this vacation and you guys all made it possible.  Thank you so much.  My gosh – the food was incredible and the bed and pillows – to die for!  Joey is just to sweet for words and your entire house is absolutely beautiful.  Seriously – you guys didn’t miss a single touch we could have asked for.  Love the private balcony with the “walk out window” – that was a little piece of history we were not previously familiar with.  We are telling everyone in Colorado to take a trip south and stay at your lovely, lovely home.  Thanks so much for a wonderful experience.

Sincerely,

T. Kinney

p.s. – Teresa – I can tell you for a fact that your staff is incredibly wonderful – even when you’re not there.  And I do mean incredibly wonderful!!!

p.p.s. I left out so many details that I shouldn’t have – from a visitor’s perspective – the magazines in the room, the fresh flowers, the luxurious robes, the armoire with “his and hers” sides, the magnifying mirror in the bathroom and the curio for cosmetics, etc., the wine, the desserts, the sherry, the pool, the gardens – ALL of it was absolutely enchanting.  Love, love, love your place – and the mural in the dining room (along with the hysterical explanation of the painting) – All of it was wonderful.  We really are telling everyone in Colorado to head to your place in Savannah.  And above all else, the incredible southern hospitality – your staff is exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and kind!  Thanks so much.

Let us recreate their experience for you at  Azalea Inn and Gardens Bed and Breakfast, a Savannah GA bed and breakfast.

I am in the travel industry and have personally stayed at numerous bed and breakfasts across the US. My recent stay at Azalea Inn in Savannah was by far the most delightful of all. The staff was professional and helpful and made you feel right at home. There is an on site chef that makes the cuisine an absolute culinary delight!!! The breakfast was amazing, appetizers at 5 PM and then a dessert treat every night at 8PM that was always well worth the wait at the end of a busy day touring this beautiful city! I found myself looking forward to the “surprise” treat every night!!! The innkeeper was an absolute delightful woman with an amazing sense of humor and southern charm! I truly was sorry to leave and will definetly be returning for more of this amazing “southern hospitality”
