July 6th, 2014 by Teresa Jacobson

Art Museums in SavannahSavannah is home to a thriving arts college (Savannah College of Art and Design, or, SCAD) and a huge historic district boasting the beauty of the past. So no shortage of art here. We want to make sure you know that you can come visit the art museums in Savannah too!

Today we’re telling you more about the 3 top art museums in Savannah. And here’s the insider tip: you can purchase your admission to all 3 museums for only $20!

THE JEPSON CENTER: The Contemporary Art Museum in Savannah

The Jepson Center for the Arts is located at 205 West York Street (at the intersection of York and Barnard on the south side of Telfair Square). This just might be the most impressively modern building in all of Savannah. Boasting over 7,500 feet of gallery space and a large atrium with marble staircase leading you to the art treasures, we love it here. We know you will too.

TELFAIR ACADEMY: Savannah’s Stately Art Museum

Well, it used to be a mansion folks. The stately building located at 121 Barnard Street was probably as impressive back when it was finished in 1819 as it is now for us now. Columns and statues impose their influence over the Telfair’s front lawn on the west side of Telfair Square. Here you’ll find sculpture and masterpieces hailing from the 18th and 19th centuries in both America and Europe.

THE OWENS-THOMAS HOUSE: The Guided Collector’s Art Museum

Taking a step away from the art-centric Telfair Square, you’ll head east until you find Abercorn Street, and the historic Owens-Thomas House on the north end of it. The proper address is 124 Abercorn Street. The space boasts English Gardens and original artwork from the family’s collection. You’ll learn all about that when you arrive. This is the only art museum we feature today that requires guests to join a guided tour. With so much history, we know you’ll appreciate that!
