Looking for a tasty place to go to lunch on a lazy Sunday? Look no further than Sisters of the New South! I discovered this place after church last Sunday with a few friends and can’t wait to go back! It’s a cafeteria-setting where you walk through and choose one meat with three sides (or just four sides, if you’re a vegetarian…or can’t force yourself to ONLY choose three!).
I ordered the fried shrimp and chose collard greens, broccoli cheese casserole, and yams (all of my favorite things!); my friend Michael got fried chicken with corn, macaroni and cheese, and green beans; and Josh, seeing how delicious all the sides looked, went with four sides and no meat. I also want to share with you some of the other choices, cause listening to the conversations around us made me want to return, and soon. Consider Liver and Onions, not every one’s favorite but I plan to jump right on it next trip and back it up with a side of rice, fried okra and baby limas. The table next to us were cooing over the fried chicken as well, and declared the oxtails impressive. I could go on, but, I think you should try it yourself. I have nothing but soulful praise about my experience: the food was delicious, the dining area was cozy, and the service was tops. Be sure to check it out on a lazy day (y’know, a day when you have a lot of time to nap off all the rich food!).
Wait, I almost forgot – you simply must try their carrot cake. I took a piece home and I must say it nearly rivaled Kolin’s. Carrot cake not your thing? Snag some peach cobbler!
Sisters of the New South Cafe is located at 2607 Skidaway Road, about a 15 minute drive from our inn, on your way to Bonaventure Cemetery.
